I'm just a regular fella from around here, and I'm happy to share with ya one of my favorite recipes that's straight outta the Natural State.

Bacon Cheeseburgers with Fried Okra

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
    1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cook the bacon until it's crispy, then set aside.
    2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef and cooked bacon. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    3. Form into patties and cook in a skillet until browned on both sides.
    4. While the burgers are cooking, mix together the flour and cornmeal in a shallow dish.
    5. Dredge the burgers in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
    6. Place the burgers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
    1. Cut the okra into slices and dredge in the flour mixture. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the okra until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

This recipe is as simple as it gets, but it's also darn good. The bacon adds a smoky flavor that'll make your taste buds do the Arkansas two-step.
